Age of Innocence

Contributed by Cypher on Sunday, 4th August 2002 @ 08:53:53 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

There was a time when all that was gold could glitter, when the gems sparkled, and silver shone. There was a time when the worl was filled with wonder, and bathed in light.
then the innocece of childhood faded. The gold was shown to be gilded paint, the gems were colored, cut glass. The silver became nothing more than chrome plate. The veils parted, showing all the mystery to be nothing more than illusion.smoke and mirrors. Light faded into shadows, and shades of grey. wonder was stolen away by the "miracles"of science. Innocence was wiped away by the harsh realities of the world.

The age of innocence is gone. replaced by fear, hate, ignorance and apathy. replaced by the real world. Why has it come to this?

I ask this question expecting no answer, hoping that no one will give me an answer, for fear that the burden of such knowledge would break me. Because I know that there is nothing I can do to change the truth of the world.

I long for the age of innocence to come again, but I know, that for me, those days will never come again. I ask again expecting no answer, hoping for no answer. Why has it come to this?

Where has the age of innocence gone?

Isn't it tragic how the world loses it's glimmer, once we are old enough to understand suffering? But is there truely such a thing as innocence? Does ignorance replace that word once we are old enough to understand what it really means? Please read "Unwanted Resentment" in my archive, it touches a little more on this subject =) Great write... thanks for the moment of true thought.

As we grown older We are too experienced to be innocent. I do feel the little ones live in their own age of innocence, its up to the adults to leave them be and let them enjoy this short phase.

A wonderful poem, provoking much thought!
