I Cried Forever

Contributed by RobinMorgan on Wednesday, 27th June 2012 @ 01:31:16 AM in AEST
Topic: war

In the twentieth century I cried many tears.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria were the tears of my fathers.
I then realized there were older tears in this land.
Chief Seattle of the Suquamish tribe of the indigenous peoples and Chief Black Kettle.
The tears of Abraham Lincoln and the letters of Private John R. Miller and many tears before them.
Then the memories of the stories told by my family's patriarchs, of the Greatest Generations War, WWII.
They weren't called the "Greatest" when they told those stories. They did their duty. They were only men and women.
Then the stories of Dresden and Hiroshima and Nagasaki, told by the people who lived through the fires and atomic hells.
Then I cried for my friends who fought at Hamburger Hill. I listened to the stories of the Mai Lai massacre.
I suffered with my friends who became heroin addicts as they tried to cope with America.
Then a deeper emotion emerged.
I wept for everything that ever happened and everything that would ever happen.
I cried forever.

Assuming, of course, you are indeed my cousin and not someone that coincidentally has the same name as he. Then the finally joined would be amended to remove the finally and I'd probably have to tone the enthusiasm down a tad since then we might be complete strangers.
