I sit alone in the dark
Afraid to even breathe
Why am I so scared
What could have frightened me?
Was it a knock
Or just a unusual sound
Why did I jump out of bed
With such a bound
If I listen very closely
Will I hear it once more
What could have scared me so badly
Could it have been someone at my door?
I creep very slowly
And move about
I am moving very quietly
When really I just want to shout
No more do I hear it
But what could it have been
If I go back to bed
Will I hear this strange sound again?
Whatever it was
It is now gone
And I am once again
Left all alone.
Will it come back
I do not know
But I will be here and will face it this time
If indeed it does show.
