While You Were Sleeping

While you were sleeping, I made the bed and started my day.
I wondered if there was something I should say.
While you were sleeping, I drank coffee on the patio and stared up at the sky.
I watched the clouds slip slowly by.
While you were sleeping, I did laundry and cleaned the house.
I pondered my life while I ironed my blouse.
While you were sleeping, I cooked a marvelous meal.
Putting the clean dishes away I thought, "How do I feel?"
While you were sleeping, I retired to the porch where I sipped red wine.
I replied to myself, "I feel just fine."
While you were sleeping, I packed up my things.
On the dresser where you keep your wallet is where I left my rings.
While you were sleeping, I grabbed hold of my life.
Now and forever, no longer your wife.
