Blood red you shed
Your dark blue pollen
Into the late afternoon breeze
You have anchored your roots
Around many a sleeping man’s bones
Lest we forget.
‘Tis a terrible curse
Mankind has set upon you
For as I sit here in the overgrown garden,
Purple ghosts filtering through the willow boughs
From the somber cumulus,
It comes to me that your simple beauty
Has been undermined
By Man’s obsession
Man’s tragedy.
Though I feel tired
Rust riddled, weary,
I shall leave this walled garden
With only your beauty in mind
Your blood red luminescence.
