The Arsenic Lace
What does the poet see
When he kills the rose;
Does his passion convulse
With tears,
His brain on fire with her?
When his eyes
Drink the arsenic lace,
Do his lips disintegrate?
When his hands petrify
And his kiss becomes a stone,
Cold as Michaelangleo,
Does death come whispering,
Its devices strewn with poetry?

There is a darkness to this poem and in a sense you are right, there is a dark place in the heart of all poets but it is not necessarily where inspiration comes from. I also see regret (The killing of the rose) I like this it is like the killing of our innocense. This is a thought provoking write. |

oh the sweet taste of darkness, too tempting for the poet,but a two edged sword creating brilliance and a balancing act on the edge that can bring great self harm, all this beautifully brought to the fore by great imagery and descriptive insight. |
