WE WALK LIKE GHOSTS IN EMPTY HALLS

We walk like ghosts in empty halls,
We lock the doors and hide the keys —
Allow no sunshine, rain, nor breeze —
To pass through our windowless walls.
And all but silent spend our days,
Lest face our fear to be without —
No laugh, no tear, no sigh, nor shout
Be heard within our lightless caves.
And though pretend we're satisfied
With our selfish doctrines, demands,
Our souls take us to distant lands;
Dare us to learn, and cease to hide —
Embrace new colours, rhythms, themes —
And give ourselves a chance to grow —
The gentle, guiding winds to blow —
That we might live our secret dreams.
