Long lost relations

Playing in the sand throwing each other with dirt
Eating in the same plate and gobbling everything at once
Running in the verandah holding hands
And getting mad at each other for teaming up and being left alone.
Exchanging clothes and fighting over them
And accidentally messing each others hair while ‘styling’ it.
‘Making’ music together and feeling really proud
And writing songs together and dreaming to be famous.
Sharing all those secrets while leaving our mothers crazy guessing
And talking about all the ‘adult’ tabooed stuff…
Late night walks discussing and planning the future
And all those promises to stay together despite the various family issues.
Days turn into years with not a single letter in between
And then you meet one day as grown ups teens.
You have so much to say, yet find no words.
Everyone seems different and new with time
And all that is shared are searching eyes,
Trying to find the person lost in time.
Something is gone, buried deep in the past
All that is left are glimpses of memories tattered with time.
Running around playing seems the dumbest thing to do
And holding hands had never felt so awkward.
You talk about studies just to start a conversation
Who knew it would take an ‘effort’ to just keep talking?
You exchange numbers but somehow always keep losing them
A lot many things become important than texting a simple ‘Hi’.
Family events and functions go unattended,’cuz of school and college
Wall posts and status updates become the only means to know about each other.
No hobbies shared, no sharing of secrets anymore,
There’s nothing left in common, apart from the old family name.
