A howling church bell
pierces the silence of a desolate street
where tangled weeds grow
through the cracks in the concrete
skittering crisp packets and swirling leaves
a carrier bag soars skyward, in a eager breeze
a punctured football and shattered glass
a worn out wooden fence and parched grass
a substance injected and a heart beating faster
uncontrollable shrieks of wild maniacal laughter
a pale sun rises and through murky windows it will splatter
into rooms of stained carpets and crumbling plaster
a pallid face inscrutable and your the focus of its gaze
daytime T.V, Cigarettes and eyes forlorn and glazed
a alcoholics mind so blurred only whiskey can numb the pain
a lonely child looks out the window upon a concrete plain
holds a picture of his father high, longing to see him again

The atmosphere created by the imagery is tangible and intriguing. Fantastic poem. |

I love this poem, it kinda reminds me of 'Preludes' by TS Eliot, which is one of my all-time favourite poems! |
