ONE DAY AT A TIME
I prayed for just one minute.
He graciously gave me two.
Can I make it one more hour?
His power gets me through.
I plead for generous mercy,
He granted endurance and grace.
I beg Him my petitions,
He knows well the concerns of my case.
The sun creeps up so slowly.
I wonder when begins its retreat?
Each minute that circles my time piece,
My heart skips multiple beats.
I go through my daily motions.
Trademark smile fixed on my face.
I pray the hours would quicken,
My spirit can ne’er bear this pace.
Darkness creeps in with a whisper.
It o’er takes and shadows the day.
My eyes grow heavy and burdened.
My thoughts have no more to say.
I knew my Creator was with me.
His footprints danced around mine.
He bore my head on His shoulder,
He breathed His words as a sign.
I began my plea with one moment.
He gave me the whole day instead.
Whatever those trials that consumed me,
He collected and carried my dread.
