The Girl on the Rock

Contributed by Anonymous494 on Monday, 30th April 2012 @ 02:30:34 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

See that girl on the rock?
That river running down that angelic face?
Of course you wouldn’t.
Her tears are not apparent to anyone but the above.
She sits there hoping for but one sole to ask.
She waits in vain.

Doubt throws those darts at her.
She’s with Halley’s Comet,
Never to come back.
Mother Nature sent her the blackest of clouds.
Neptune sent her the harshest of waves.
Hypnos yet eludes her.

Her hair must be the sickliest of colors,
Her eyes, small and beady
Towering and lanky, the most unattractive of sorts
There could be no other explanation.
Aphrodite has ignored her incessant requests

Her hopes, dreams
Elpis has said they’re never to come true.
Though still she sits on that rock.
Contemplating life, dreaming about what will never be
Will she dream in vain?

Can’t she see those who love her?
Those she does not believe exist.
Her hopes and dreams have begun to unwind like a kite.
Aphrodite has blessed her, though she is yet to know it.
Her internal flame has banished what Mother Nature wrought.

See that girl on the rock?
That river running down that angelic face?
Of course you wouldn’t.
Her tears are not apparent to anyone but the above.
She sits there hoping for but one sole to ask.
She waits in vain.

Pure beauty, I loved the use of mythological characters, the emotion leaps off the poem.
Inspiring and heartfelt

You have captured loneliness and given it life in your poem. This is a poem that shows that even in sadness, you can express yourself beautifully. Many people say that rhyme and meter are the essence of poetry, and I strongly disagree. Expression is the essence of poetry, and you did so excellently!
