As I sit at my desk and I work on my first novel,
I see a fly,
I acknowledge the fly as it lands on my left hand,
“***** off, I’m trying to work!” I shout as I unsuccessfully try to kill it with my right,
Off it flies, this time landing on my pen which is yet to touch the paper,
I swing for it again and yet again I miss,
The fly laughs at me as he takes off again and lands on my paper,
Once more I attempt to squash its guts all over my unwritten novel,
This time he flies up on to my shelf,
I can see him looking down at me,
“How can you write a novel if you’re being outsmarted by a fly?” He smarmily asks,
I put the pen down and walk away; I’ll leave the novel writing to the flies.
