The Change to Loveliness (pantoum)
The crepe-skinned woman mends a part each day
with tear-drop hooks and threads of wisdom’s lore
her heart, a growing piece of human clay
she makes from scattered beads across life’s floor.
With tear-drop hook and threads of wisdom’s lore
a pattern weaves like single stitched crochet.
She makes from scattered beads across life’s floor
a patch to cover holes from needless fray.
A pattern weaves like single stitched crochet
from loops wound ‘round in counts of four on four
a patch to cover holes from needles fray
and heal the wounds from stab of child-like gore.
From loops wound ‘round in counts of four on four
her heart begins a holiday ballet
and heals the wounds from stabs of child-like gore,
a sermon caught in minister’s essay.
In time she’s learned the dangers to avoid,
the pseudo words debased and paranoid.
Her heart’s a growing piece of human clay.
The crepe-skinned woman mends a part each day.
