Snap Back

Contributed by hoping_to_be_me on Wednesday, 7th May 2003 @ 11:35:00 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

on the way home
while I held his hand
and we came to a red light
all I could do
was look ahead
and let my self remember
happier days
days that I had looked forward to
filled with laughing people
and everything and everyone I loved
memories filled my head
until I snapped back
and remembered where I was
I squeezed his shad and little tighter
then we started to move
what was only 10 seconds
seemed like 10 years
I can still hear them saying
"You'll be back"
"Don't worry"
and I can still remember thinking
"I only wish"
"I'll miss you so much"
I think about how many are leaving
and about how many aren't leaving, but they're gone
and if they'll forget me
they have my number
but will they call?
snapping back out again
he looks at me with those all-seeing eyes
I don't want to look but he's got me hooked
he lets go of my hand to grab the wheel
I slowly creep back into my solitary shell
I choke back the tears
I've got ot hold it together
he notices and nudges my hand
our fingers intertwined just the way I always dreamed it's just what I needed
and he was the one to know
we drive up my driveway
and both walk to my door
mabye he wanted more
but his day will come soon
we say goodbye with love in our voices
he'll call, I know
I walk to my room
and collapse on my bed
recollecting what just happened
it's over
all over
but the memories aren't

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
