A Hobo's Toast

I looked at my feet
and oh! I wept
to walk with no shoes
through city streets
and dust bowl towns
from history's novels past
and in the rust belt
my heart swells
'til larger than a worlds fair
how much can one man endure?
and then solace and succor
from what newly perceived
in front of me a man
whose life story had come to an end
without ever getting to drink a glass of ranch
