The Early Warning
by Ryan Chandler

I sought to find a new design
by putting poison in my spine
and when I crossed the very line
that I had drawn inside my mind
the place I found was not divine
it did not shimmer
it did not shine
it simply showed me that my time
was oh' so precious and so fine.

are you talking about surgery by chance? I'm curious. I liked the poem. Short but sweet.
