We planted the seeds of our love
Like some plant the seeds of a tree
Hoping for it to be something,
majestic and graceful and free.
We nurtured those branches so gently,
While waiting and watching with fear
When the weak little limbs were so fragile
Through our grief and our hopes and our tears.
We fashioned the boughs into something
To gently rock our babes to sleep
We bent it to shapes that would help us,
Find joy in our darkest of deep.
Every year our tree strengthened and grew,
Into something we were in great awe of,
Our dreams climbed in the wealth of its branches,
Leaves protecting the love we were proud of.
But some trees were meant to live longer
And grow stronger with each passing year.
They reach higher because they seek more
Of the warmth of love’s rich atmosphere.
Other trees wither and die,
Because poison creeps into their roots,
They stop pushing out leaves with abandon,
And don’t dream about sending out shoots.
But hidden amongst all the leaves
Hangs the tiniest version of hope,
An acorn that given the chance,
Will grow stronger than any before.
