WHEN TIME ARRIVES

Is there maybe something I could do,
To make you want me like I do you?
I’ve been so patient for so very long.
At times it seems I may have been wrong.

I’d be very tender,
So loving and so kind.
You have complete control
Of everything that’s mine.

If anything should frighten you,
Or make you feel disgust,
I’ll have you look straight in my eyes,
To find there genuine trust.

Maybe I have a year ahead,
Or maybe a little less.
The doctors aren’t quite certain,
But they frown with each new test.

Chest pains come more frequently.
I expect that any day,
I’ll see the hands of angels,
As they usher me away.

And when at last my time arrives,
If you are by my side,
I then can rest so peacefully,
If you’re holding me when I die.

I’m married to you sweetheart.
You have always worn my ring.
I marvel at every sunrise,
And new love each day it brings.

Lead me to a peaceful sleep
While nestled in your arms.
Till then smother me with affection,
Your kisses and your charms.
