Poems, Never Written

Contributed by sir_odd87 on Friday, 30th March 2012 @ 12:43:20 AM in AEST
Topic: InspirationalPoems

You used to write so frequently,
Adeptly, and quite skilled,
But the reactions of one or two,
Your feverish pen, have stilled.

The words are racing through your mind
Begging for you to write them.
But you fear what your critics would think,
Your page stays blank to spite them.

You see a girl that fills your heart
With the most beautiful of words.
But, for fear she'll laugh, you close your mouth
And not one of your thoughts is heard.

Your creative impulses ebb and wane,
As you continue day to day
Dying the thousand deaths the cowards die
With each word you fail to say.

It's true, people can be twice shy
From having been once bitten.
But one can't let shyness become
A poem, never written.

That's a beautiful poem. I used to write poetry when I was a little kid, and people said I wrote them like an adult and that I was talented, but during my yeenage years I almost completely stopped, because people can be so critical and judgemental. I'm glad i've started writing again, i think a lot of people can probably relate to this :)

It takes one only to remember that poems, written or never written
are for us, and us alone. We do not write to please, impress or
satisfy our critics. We write, simply because we must. So many of
the famous poets did not gain recognition of their talent until they
were long dead. Unfortunate, but sadly true. For whatever reason,
some of our peers cannot recognize talent (or perhaps, accept it)
in others. They are seriously missing out. But too, we must remember
that art in any form is subjective. This was a wonderfully written
and thought provoking piece. Sufficient to still even the harshest
critics mind enough to give pause. :)

Thank you for sharing.

~ Breezy
