Remember the days when a comedy roast
Would bring guffaws and wide smiles,
Without uttering a single phrase
That was filled with filth and vile?
Where have all the Red Skelton’s gone,
And improvs like Jonathan Winters?
Today comedy has rotted inside
And what’s left is dust and splinters.
I know kids hear much worse at school
But should we pile more crap on other?
The less they hear the filth that’s slung,
A better chance they’ll respect their brothers.
Victor Borge had a brilliant act.
Milton Berle would wear a dress.
Jackie Mason would do impressions,
And bring smiles to every face.
Abe Vagoda had smooth delivery
With a puzzled look and stare.
And Carol Burnett with Tim Conway
Would make you laugh till tears were there.
Nipsy Russell could talk about race
And make fun of bigotry.
Lucille Ball and Flip Wilson,
Were the best at least to me!
Fred MacMurray and Ozzie and Harriet,
And Danny Thomas and Robert Young,
Not to mention that cute boy Beaver,
Were the comics when it was fun.
Today’s new breed don’t fit the mold,
Of what comedy is when it’s clean.
It’s no longer family entertainment,
And should be labeled as obscene!
