FREIGHT TRAIN

Do you hear the whistle on the track?
A freight train is on it's way.
It's softly and peacefully calling,
As it does this time each day.
It never tells us where it's coming from.
And we don't know what it's showing.
I like to think it's Heaven bound,
With souls who are homeward going.
It's song is such a peaceful tune.
And it's wheels are lowly humming.
Just like guitars that I love to play,
On my porch a softly strumming.
The night train gently soothes the soul,
With a rhythm that's peacefully chiding,
“I'll be back on a distant day,
So you may join us in the riding.”
The Engineer that controls it's path
Is sweetly calling to all,
“All aboard children don't be late,
I paid the fare, with a price not small.”
As the train passes by my path,
And it's tune is a distant call,
I think to myself it's lonesome whistle,
Is calling to us one and all.
