The Tree And The Crows
The vision is strange – abstract in form and construction;
I am alone on a stark moor in England's country –
The wind blows and howls as those do for absolution;
The solitude and barrenness are desultory.
In abstract construct the sky is electric white – glare
Forces the eyes closed with prolongued exposure – blinding
And painful – the grass and fields are red and seem aflame;
And on the distant horizon it stands – outstanding –
The tree – black from electrocution – stands alone;
Its blackened limbs pointing to the sky in silent prayer –
Black crows screech and fly – swooping down and circling its throne;
I feel moved to tears at the image – I stand and stare –
The solitude and barrenness are desultory –
What means this all – what happened here – what is the story?
