Underdog

Topic: Lifepoems

numbness was my childhood best friend
they played on the monkey bars loudly
the under dog I vowed Id always would defend

I spent my 6th grade nights reading silently
they skated and kissed at the new roller rink
while my blood should have boiled violently

I was a heavy, teased, medicated little child
I just wanted to help the kids in my class
even when they where nothing but vile

I figured yes, maybe
it was now time
for a new me
so I started
climbing up
on my favorite
old tree

I kept a journal,
and tried to grow
but it seemed that
what ever anyone else reaped,
for them I had to sow.

i worked hard
on myself
for 7
years

broken bones
and grit
and sweat
and tears

and all the while
not with a smile
i ran down the feild
with instructions to defile
this opposite team
under rain and snow
and bright sun beams

I was the strongest on the feild
and given the job
to make sure
their striker
would yeild

I was taught new moves to take her out
now matter what they told me in those
minutes
that was not what this was about

I walked with a numbness
i had never carried all those years
only anger now was surfacing
along with jets of tears

I had never intended it to be this way
I was going to be an artist
I didnt want to even play

I quit that day,
my life was my own now,
and concentrated on art,
- get used to it some how

Its funny
how we turn from a protector
to the hunter
in one fell swoop
all to make sure we are not vunerabule anymore
or left out of the loop.
