A Construct Called Dignity

Down by the crusty salt lakes,
there lived a floating girl.
She didn't posses shelter
of any form,
no four walls to cower in
when the careless winds blew
specks of dirt and plaster
from the conscientiously built
dome shaped homes
crouching on
the surrounding cliffs.
What a picturesque little tourist destination
this was,
and she just lay still,
soaking it all in,
salt and scrutiny
The tourists, they admired from afar,
her skin adorned with
broken inflections
cast by shadows from salt crystals
ethereal and at the same time ephemeral,
an attraction, not to be encapsulated
by memories more complex
than a thumb drive.
Nonetheless, she was the main attraction,
the current inducing tremor,
the epicentre of excitement.
Day by day, they trudged through
uneven terrain,
knees buckling over cliff tops
to gawk at her.
But at the hottest times of the day,
when the sun was at its peak,
shooting arrows of unfiltered light
at dead accurate angles,
she could fathom
only the expressionless glints
from their sunglasses,
the seemingly menacing shines
of clean white teeth,
simpering and mocking
It was then that the salt began to sting,
and the heat began to singe,
so suddenly,
like a malevolent gust of wind
hollowing through
somewhere in the middle of her heart.
It was then that she wished fervently,
that she had some shelter
from the leering storm,
veering closer
to sink buoyant beings on lakes
What she wouldn't give,
for a crouching dome shaped home,
meticulously moulded,
cool and still,
away from the monotonous undulations of the lake,
to take refuge from ridicule.

Sounds all science fictiony. :) Complex, perplexing, and ambiguous....is she a dead body? A statue of some sort? And what of these dome shaped homes?
Quite the puzzle you have built here. Me likes.

That... was an excellent poem. Bravo... you have my attention. :) Mystery, vocabulary, and a clever twisted metaphor if I'm not mistaken. A beautiful piece of art. |

Man your a wizard, vivid evocative and just about obscure enough to shroud the whole piece in a intrigue that has kept me re-reading this, to try and figure out the meaning. |
