LITTLE DRAKE AND LITTLE DAN

Contributed by hray42 on Tuesday, 13th March 2012 @ 05:29:21 AM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

this is a story about a boy named Drake
he was just four inches tall for heaven's sake!
watch out for him! please don't make a mistake!
for it is caution around him that you must take
Drake was born at the start of the year
it's now December, so his eighth birthday is near
wish him a happy one when the day is here
i'm sure he'll be glad to have that in his ear
poor Drake would love to play baseball
but the lad is only four inches tall
still he says that he'll prove to us all
that he is big enough, and not too small
no one knows why he was born this way
he has no choice, it's just the size he'll stay
at least that's what all the doctors say
so Drake just finds his own games to play
he plays hide and go seek and kick the can
he plays these with his invisible friend Dan
who was just here, but you came, so he ran
that leaves Little Drake alone and sad
but it's okay, he'll just look for his dad
who will make him feel not a bit sad
but it might leave Little Dan a little mad
it's okay, he'll get over it
he won't throw a huge temper fit
and no, he won't find a reason to quit
any games he plays with Drake after a bit
well, let's leave these two all the same
although Drake was happy that you came
he won't look at you and lay any blame
for Dan running away when you called Drake's name
besides, it's getting close to Drake's bedtime
when he shall sleep after reading a little rhyme
and then shall dream of mountains of candy to climb
and all the flavors he loves, cherry, apple, and lime
so, it's the moment to bid you goodnight
Drake will sleep well, he will sleep tight
no, he won't let the bed bugs bite
and don't you fret, he's not at all worried about his height...

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
