THE GHOSTS OF THE GALLOWS

Contributed by hray42 on Saturday, 10th March 2012 @ 01:12:04 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

once they had lives, love, and laughter
then they met unwillingly with the hereafter
now they are the ghosts of the gallows
just wandering around, and lurking in the shadows
you can hear them weeping, crying for life
their voices distant and dull, but as sharp as a knife
they are sad, sorry for their earthly sins
they loiter in the passageways of lifeless and empty inns
they haunt the place where they came to fate
they are lost, weary, in a confused state
their world is upside down, and extremely dark
a reality as hopeless seeming, as it is stark
they are not ghouls, nor are they beasts
they have hunger, it is of life that they feast
their final memories are much of a shame
but they have only their former selves to blame
blame for their untimely and unfortunate end
when into this altered existence their souls did blend
when they dangled freely from a hangman's noose
until their swinging bodies were eventually cut loose
their vessels dropped with a horrible sound
then they were committed forever to unholy ground
so they are sorrowful and full of gloom
still weeping, and waiting for a lovely tomb
if you should encounter them, do not be of fright
just wish them well, and bid to them a goodnight...
