Life is full of surprises arriving each second
Some depressing, cruel, so frightening
Some glorious, lovely, joy beckons
Striking your world with the speed of lightning
Never sure if your armor will hold you safe
Clutch your shield with muscles refusing to bend
Struggle against skin beginning to chafe
Mind reeling with what you can't comprehend
Look to the sun; brilliant warm light it sends
Close your eyes, feel the earth beneath your feet
Knowledge flows where your soul begins and ends
Facing the conflict, friend or foe, against it's defeat
Strength is felt, claiming your battle stance
Uncertainty hovers, singing its song endlessly
Doing your best to engage surprise in a dance
Swinging this new change into what it needs to be
There is no control over what life sends your way
That's what makes each day an adventure
Don't mistake that you have any kind of say
Just give it your all, try to avoid the disaster
Hold tight to what comprises the sum of you
Share the parts that bring your world to life
There won't be joy or hurt in everything you do
Do all you can to wipe out what brings the strife
Never stop, glide onward moment to moment
Each second contains elements that ring true
Life brings to all joyous love and hurtful torment
What parts are chosen depends on what makes you
