How Do You Heal?

Something inside me has been stirred.
Something is not right.
I can’t find my reason,
And faith is losing sight.
Life has taught me through many struggles.
Has forced me to endure pain,
From standing from afar and knowing
Nothing I do can stop the rain.
These tears that fall,
So violently from her eyes,
While all I can do,
Is hear her silent cries.
How can someone do that to her!
What was the excuse!
To RAPE my sister!
And her have to take the abuse!
This continues for two years,
And how did no one know?
It took so long,
For her pain to finally show.
And the pain in me,
As there was nothing I could do.
Hearing about it through friends,
Only imagining what she is going through.
States separate us by distance,
But in my heart she stays near.
She is my purpose and reason,
For my life here.
But she is my little sister!
And when she needed me, I failed.
Why could I not find a way to help?
She must feel I have bailed.
I never wished to leave her side,
Life just got in the way.
And the guilt inside me,
Is buried deep and plans to stay.
All my life I try and try
To be the most that I can be,
But as some point I never am enough.
And failure is all I see.
This is not my battle,
But it still hurts like hell.
I want to be better,
But in the end I just yell.
“WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE,
TO HURT HER IN YOUR SELFISH GREED?
I HOPE YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED,
SEWED YOUR SELFISH DEED!
HOW CAN YOU THINK TO HURT HER,
WHAT IS YOUR EXCUSE?
WHAT ARE YOUR REASONS,
TO OKAY THIS ABUSE?!!!!!”
Broken pieces left scattered,
All across the floor,
More than what anyone
Could possibly ignore.
As hard as it is to forgive him,
To go beyond what I feel,
I have forgiven him not for him,
But so I myself can heal.
The truth is no secret,
And in my sister she holds it in.
Afraid to talk and remember,
As if it lets him win.
She cannot heal until she forgives,
But how do you forgive such a pain?
It rips you to pieces,
And drives you insane.

A brilliant commentary of a horrible subject
plaguing our world. It tares at the heart and
allows the reader to envision both the criminal
act but the anguish felt by the victims and their
loved ones. But it ends giving the answer of
how to overcome such pain and hatred.
Forgiveness. Brenda, you have so much talent.
I am thankful you are sharing it here. I want to
thank you again for all your sweet and
thoughtful comments on my poetry too.
Blessings, Rob |

It's when I read, hear, and see things such as this that (at times) makes me think we're already in hell. I can't apologize for bastard like that and we all seem to sit here, helpless. You did capture that very well in this...that helplessness.
Truly sad. I am so sorry that she has to endure this. But you were brave to post this.
Take care,

A very heartfelt poem and I'm sure you do feel her pain intensely as you are so close.
I've never understood what drives some people to act the way they do, perhaps there is no real logic behind it.
All you can do is let her know you are thinking of her and hope that time will mend the wounds a little.
