Your children are in their fifties,
But you still call them the kids.
And now you need contraptions
Just to open mayonnaise lids.
You gave up chewing Chiclets
Because it now sticks to your teeth.
Your promises of something tomorrow
Are Lord willing now, so to speak.
The grandkids coming over
Makes you put some things away.
Kids surely can get physical
In the living room when they play.
You used to think it strange when
Old folks would sit in rocking chairs.
But now one’s on your front porch.
You can't get up from there.
Arthritis now in every joint
Gives deep and throbbing pain.
But it seems to get the worst
Just before a pouring rain.
Add this all together it means
You lived a long and happy life.
You wouldn't change a thing you did
Or the Ben Gay kept by your side.
