Lashing against the
cold wet concrete,
Its laces untethered
and worn, the sole
black beaten boot weeps.
As the deserted traveler sits
in its flooded gutter home
On the cracked pavement,
Sharply dressed city creatures
With Rolexes and Chanel cologne
Avert their eyes.
Its brother rests in a
Distant tomb of rotting flesh,
With discarded pictures
And broken lamps,
Basking in the noble exhaust
Of the remnants of routine;
A proper arrangement.
