What is there to save

Topic: selfstruggles

You just don't start out hopeless, only helpless
That in of itself isn't wrong, what else can you do
Being thrust into a life without so much as a clue
Except to live the life the fates decided was yours.

You see all the choices but they don't make sense
So all you do is hope that you're doing right by you
And you stumble along, filled with empty dreams
Watching more and more time just fall behind you.

You had it all but you didn't know that, no one does
Where was the instruction manual when you needed it
Anything this complicated should have instructions
Hell, even the clock on the wall comes with a manual.

You lived life the best you could, as it presented itself
What else could you do, you just had to keep going
And day by day, you scratched off another failed dream
Til you are where you are, today, at this very moment.

Yes, you have lived and you have learned all you know
Doesn't make the sour taste in your mouth any sweeter
It will not ease that dull ache in your heart any, either
What is there left for you to accomplish at this point.

With a tear-swollen tongue, you ask whoever's listening
Please, oh please, would you just show me how to live
And the only sound in reply is but the deafening silence
Somewhere, inside, you knew that's all you would get.

Armed with the knowledge of your too many failures
And the sad prospect of it not ever getting any better
You sit and wonder if you have any more choices left
Because from where you are, it doesn't look like it.

Thinking you should be crying but knowing it won't help
You've no tears left to shed, you're simply all cried out
There's no sadness in you, you've spent your share
Yeah, nothing left but a broken soul in an empty life.

Even where you're at right now wasn't by your choice
So here you sit in a lonely world, a sad, lonely waste
Trying to make some sense of it all or hoping for more
Your petty dreams and joy have long since left you.

Stuck in your hole, just an pitiful husk, you stare out
There's nothing left for you here so why hang around
Why drag this torment any further into the future
You think to yourself, you have one more choice left.

You have lived and tried, you have tripped and fallen
The scars have all replaced the person you once were
You have lived and you have cried but all to no avail
Time to start over...hope those you've heard were right.

So on to the next great adventure, that's all you feel
You definitely have worn out your welcome in this life
Just close your tired, red eyes and shut out this pain
It's the only thing that feels right...to start over again.
