You Kill Me.

Topic: Lifepoems

When I first heard of you it was in the newspaper.
"Two women stole," and Sally asked, "A raper?"
What could I say? She was only five.
If she already knew, how could I lie?

Two months went by,
you were on my mind.
The paper read 'pleads guilty,'
but my heart sank..."They're filthy."

I told my son, "I know he's innocent!
If I have to do it myself, I'll represent!"
I couldn't watch this poor man suffer
in the jail with all the heffors.

So I went to court to plead your innocense.
Judge said, "Miss, do you with to represent?"
I nodded my head, agreeing yes.
The Judge put out the sour incense.

The bell rang,
the hammer smacked.
Sweat beads dripped down your head
and down your back.

"Don't be nervous," I said to you.
This was for myself too.
I was not a lawyer,
I got all I knew from movies including Tom Sawyer.

The next I knew you were walking free.
You were on your knees thanking me.
"Nobody had faith, not even my mother."
"Eh, well now we have eachother?"

My suggestion was raw.
It hung there for a while.
Time flew by and with just one smile
the silence was broke
and you took off running.

The next thing I knew you were calling me honey.

I was cooking waffles and to my surprise,
the doorbell rang. You had barely open eyes.
Your hands were cuffed but no sign of police.
"What the hell, John? What are you doing?"

To be continued...

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
