My father taught me long ago, giving up should not be tried.
As long as there’s tomorrow, starting again should satisfy.
He had been gone for thirty years, when I wished to see his face.
I wished to build a time machine to travel through time and space.
I had worked for many hours, as sweat rolled down my face.
My garage was getting stuffy, so I had to leave that place.
But when I turned around to look at that which I had built,
I heard it start to sputter, then spit and start itself.
There were so many motor parts from cars and motorcycles.
It even had some belts and hose that I used to just recycle.
I was not ready for it to work as I still had a lot to do.
But curiously I must admit, I crawled into the sidecar pew.
The timepiece I had wired in the electronic motor’s dash.
Had started flashing numbers that were dates that now had passed.
I felt the contraption shaking, and in fear clicked my seatbelt.
And then I saw lights and colors, but no movement was ever felt.
I started getting dizzy, so I closed both of my eyes. then
My mother was walking toward me, and I thought that very nice.
She asked what all the noise was, but I remembered she had died.
I explained I’d built a time machine, this was the first time it was tried.
I asked her what the year was, she said it was 1952.
I said but Mom I do not think I should be standing here with you.
She said “Who are you calling Mom? Have you gone out of your mind?.
I said “I’ll have to explain it to you,” so I tried and tried and tried!
And then my Dad came into sight, and did not know just who I was.
He called my mother “Bobbie” and he asked “What’s all the Fuss?”
She said “I’ll tell you Junior! This man thinks he’s our son!”
My dad looked at me and then he said “Leave now or I’ll get a gun!”
Turning the key on my time machine just to hear that same old noise.
The flashing lights showed colors bright but I kept my nerve and poise.
I told my folks that I’d be back If they heard me through the sounds,
I was hoping to go to the future, but was unsure where I was bound!
