TIME TRAVELER’S ADVENTURES #2

My second trip had me baffled, as nothing looked normal to me.
I observed lots of horses and buggy’s, and Cobblestone roads lined by trees.
I stepped out of my time machine, and approached a building called Ford!
I wondered if I should enter there, so I did, wiping my feet on a board.

Inside the door I was surprised, to find a play now in progress.
I looked around at the sights and sounds as a strange man was regressing.
He walked up the stairs to the balcony, where someone was wearing a top hat.
Then I heard a pop from where I know not, And that man ran away just like that!

I remembered from my history class that a silk covered top hat was worn,
By a beloved President who was shot, Oh how the nation did mourn!
Then I wished that I had come just a few minutes before this grim sight.
For I had witnessed history, on this wretched cold blooded night!

So, I went to my time machine, and attempted to get out of there.
Perhaps I could go if I made it go slow, to stop that assassin somewhere!
So, I went on in time but was traveling blind, as I stopped not where I thought.
I did go on ahead, a short time instead, to where that assassin was caught!

I’ve learned now over and over again, that I can never change time.
I’m only allowed to witness it, and record it again, now in rhyme.
For had I warned the President, what changes would come from our past?
Would we still be a nation now, or would our proud way of life last?

I’ve got to take my time machine home, and overhaul all the controls.
And in my garage I know I can find, all the needed springs and coils.
So if you don’t ever hear from me, because the repairs take such time,
Then I will travel forward so you, can travel with me on your dime!

I will take cash or credit cards, and gold, but I’ll never take checks.
If you try to pay with diamonds, I guess it’s o.k. what the heck!
There’s no guarantee we’ll ever return, if you go you must sign a waiver.
If you have a fear when you pay oh dear, perhaps you should just become braver!
