The View From The Cheap Seats

Contributed by POOBEAR on Sunday, 4th August 2002 @ 11:12:26 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

You really have to sit in the cheap seats,
to appreciate my view,
of these simple things
that when I was younger,
provided me with so much pleasure.
To grow up and be satisfied,
with the little that we had,
makes these the moments,
that forever I will treasure.

The smell of the crayons,
in the old coffee can,
and the feel of the shag rug
as I sat and colored at grandma's house,
a few doors down the way.
Even the water at grandma's,
seemed to taste better and colder,
because she had those special cups.
The little ones made of plastic,
that you use one time and then throw away.

The time we begged my mom,
to actually let the vacuum cleaner salesman,
come right on in the door,
on the hottest of summer days,
because of what he offered as a deal.
He knew we couldn't afford to buy one
but all we had to do,
was sit and watch the demonstration,
and we would get a free case of soda pop,
just for listening to his spiel.

But by far my fondest memory,
is how I got even with my big brother,
whenever he got the better of me
or teased me more than he should.
Into his room I would sneak,
to pick out a model car,
he had put together piece by piece,
carefully snap off just one tiny engine part
then with a smile close it's liitle hood.

I didn't realize I had a twin...LOL...this is wonderful. What drew me to this was the title. When I was younger...we used to watch the football games on tv. I used to tell my dad we had better seats cuz we could move and saw closeups and had mom's food and on and on. Daddy always said we had the cheapest and richest seats ever :)

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
