Night folded round, wind and rain
glassy hazes, raging waves.
Night when the babies should be in bed
tucked in tight, teddy bears near, for the night.
Swept away in the waves, lost in the dark
lost in the rain, gone into the storm.
They disappeared into the dark
soon rain turned to tears
cries screamed with the howling wind.
Strangers to me, yet my heart ached,
I stood at the window
stared into the dark
shed a tear with the pounding rain.
As I listened to the reports
as they searched for them
lost in their watery grave.
Winter has come, winter has come.
I posted a bit of what happened below. It is so sad I cannot even imagine it.
ALBANY, Oregon - Tragedy near Mega Foods store parking lot unfolded last night in Albany after heavy rains flooded the area and filled a creek and canal near Geary and Queen.
The driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Christopher Wilgus of Albany and his son, Maliki, 5, were able to escape from the car. A toddler, Aiden McLaughlin, 20 months, and Aiden's mother, 18-year-old Catherine McLaughlin of Albany were also in the vehicle as it went into the water.
Wilgus had driven to the Mega Foods store, which ended with the death Catherine McLaughlin son after their car sank into Periwinkle Creek and was swept away into the canal and into a culvert. McLaughlin is missing but presumed drowned.
Water from heavy rainfall flooded the Mega Foods parking lot at the intersection of Geary and Queen just after 8 p.m. and several cars began to float. Albany Fire Department representative Wanda Omdahl said one of the cars somehow floated into a canal that is next to the lot and was pulled under.

A tragedy indeed.
Nature can be a cruel mistress, as has been shown so many times.
You have written a very poignant piece here, yet again.

Hi Shel,
A real tragedy - and even more distressing
when children are involved.
A tough one to write about, but you done it
justice.

how tragic in deed and you painted a vivid picture with your words. God be with their families and they are in my prayers. |
