Bed maker, bed maker,
make me a bed.
Just one more cradle
to rock myself dead.
For the mattress, barbed wire,
and thistle-filled sheets;
a pillow of pain
that just can’t be beat.
A blanket of guilt?
A duvet of temptation?
A sham of control,
that is my salvation!
Color the whole thing
an unfaithful blue
(the shade of a heart
that just can’t stay true).
Bed maker, bed maker,
make me a bed…
a place that I crave
to lay my forked head.
Bed maker, bed maker,
please, don’t you quit!
Make me a bed
so I can lie in it.

Hi Tracy
Just had to visit your page after sampling
your last 2 poems.
Yip! Agree your sentiments - can get like
that sometimes. I love the comparison with
Bedlam.
