Nothing I Can Do?

Contributed by northernlights on Tuesday, 17th January 2012 @ 02:39:24 AM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

Excess cries from the swollen bellies of gluttony as denial shows it’s piteous face
In the gleam of the surgeons knife, and society’s sheep nod.
Nod into a bowl of weakness where you don’t swim, you sink to the bottom of
The spineless abyss of no choice, where you don’t have to do anything!
Silver lines the pockets of sculptors working with slabs of low self esteem
And the cronies of addiction applaud to the loss of another soul to the realm
Of excuses.
Where is the spine that would hold the strongest book together under the scrutiny of
The harshest critical eyes?
Under which mountain of helplessness has responsibility been buried?
How black are the lungs of the child you say you love as it gasps for its future breath
Whilst you bewail your addiction.
Where was the food for health’s future when you drank your last bottle that entered
The mouth and left in the first satisfying moment of futility.
What gives you the right to sit on the backs of the beasts of burden that toil from morn
Till night and your feet never even touch the ground.
An undefined face lost in a mask of self satiating pity.
Is that self help and responsibility I see sitting next to the dodo?
What has happened to you society?

Hi Anna,

There are none so blind as those who WILL
NOT see.

Extremely topical, and should succeed in
making a few bums squirm, upon reading.

Gritty, full of fight and defiance.
You've blended your ideas together well into a compelling read.

Thanks

Steve
