Know Me

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Don''t stand there acting like you know me
Don't think you know my feelings inside
I'm made up of more than you'll ever see
Strength, endurance, even a sense of pride

Because you think you've got me figured out
Mistaking my gentle shyness for a form of fear
Thinking you'll overtake my timid voice with a shout
There's so much I need to make loud and clear

By preferring the quietness of voice and speech
You think I'm afraid of words, what they mean
Making myself understood without a yelling screech
I'm aware of more around me than it would seem

Armed with the fortress of my heart of gold
I'm smart, clever, brimming with hope
It gives me the courage to be bold
Tying up evil lies, stories with truth's rope

Uncharted lands within me, no map revealed
Many hidden recesses, valleys left unexplored
Your claim to know me will mark our fate sealed
You lose your chance to see what's behind my door

I'm an open book when the right reader is found
Many exciting chapters, adventures to discover
Stories worth reading, listening to their sounds
Once you see the real me, destroy the false cover

Yep. You're right. People who've never
walked in our shoes or crawled into our
skin try to tell us they know how we feel!
It's all hogwash. Until they have gone
through the same obstacle course
by our side they can't know.. Very profound
and insightful piece!
Blessings,
Robert Edgar Burns (Rob)

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
