I close my eyes sometimes to see your face
a memory of sunshine through the rain
this memory of love seems out of place
I stare at droplets sinking down the pane
the letterbox is forced with little grace
awakened, I box up my thoughts again
I wish I knew that one day you would leave
my heart falls sharply, no room on my sleeve
we walked for hours, love fuelled, we never tired
your hand in mine, the world would have to wait
it all just happened as if God inspired
I thanked him for this feast upon my plate
good things abounded, romance, brain re-wired
the sugar coated cereal was grrreat
I failed to see the dark clouds all about
your crying face, mine comforted by doubt
The next day I returned but you had run
back home to family, a wall of steel
clouds circled, blanking out the shining sun
I hardened up, heart shattered, could not feel
I vowed that day to sneer at love and fun
and pack my heart up with a safety seal
but now, I close my eyes and think of you
we nearly had it all. Our love was true

So many broken relationships. So much heartbreak. It seems that is the story of the world.
A beautiful rendition of tragedy. |
