Daylight brings out our superstitions and we cry,
Forever in debt to our fathers for life on this earth,
Swallowing sadness the day turns to dusk,
As we all weep for the broken earth we inhabit.
Now we challenge the daily rules that bind us,
Struggling blindly into the cracked horizon.
Slow turning we stop and look at what we have made,
Deciding whether or not this whole idea was paradise,
Amazed at wonders that naturally occur,
We ignore the true beauty of why we live and breathe.
Out of sight and out of mind we accomplish nothing,
Just to leave our mark on the scarred face we see.
I laugh and sob while you are quietly sleeping,
For I never really rest as I am living,
Contained within me is a monster that I destroyed,
But I kept his heart to remind me what could have been.
Secretly that being is trying to break through and speak,
The ravenous claws etching away at my internal thought.
I collapse in tasks that the forerunners have left,
What is thought of me is more than there can be,
I cannot and will not do any less or any more now,
My grave is dug and the sloping walls are closing in.
I think of everyone as I look to the stars above me,
I take my last breath and realise that I have won.
