Those Scars

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Sometimes I wonder,
Does anyone notice his scars?
Five on his hand,
Two on his arm.
Symbols of his pain,
For all the world to see.
And he's only thirteen.
"It's just a game."
they say,
"It's called ABC,"
"Everyone at school plays it."
A.. alligator
B.. bear
C.. cat
Think of an animal for every letter,
While scratching as hard as you possibly can.
D.. dog
E.. elephant
F.. frog
Scratch scratch scratch.
Why do they do it?
Perhaps it's a call to their parents,
Who work all day,
Only to come home late at night,
And fall asleep with the TV on,
Sitting in a chair.
G.. goat
H.. horse
I.. iguana
Maybe they're tired of going unnoticed.
Through the halls,
Into class,
Out the door,
Down the street,
Arriving at home once more,
With no one to ask them how their day was.
J.. jackal
K.. kangaroo
L.. lion
If only I could help,
But I know how it feels,
And only they can change.
Each one of them knows,
It's so much more than just a game.
M.. moose
N.. newt
O.. ocelot...
And so it continues.
Stop while you're ahead, sweetheart.
You're loved.
Don't ever forget it.

This is very sad. I'm glad that we have all of you young adults here on ypdc. This poem explains alot too me. I feel being a teen today holds alot of the same pressures it did when I was a teen yet somehow its on a much grander scale. I never saw these things in my school but different things. This is a great write!!

Wow such a simple poem yet so sad and true. I've cut before I know all the feelings. Maybe u should reach out to those who are hurting the worst they can do is push you away. At least you know you've tried to help. Once again I liked this a lot.

People actually play that game? Oh my goodeness. It is so upsetting that people are trying to reach out for help in this way. I am so glad I can do it through poetry!!!
