For You, Dear Friend

For You, Dear Friend

There are "needles,"
and then there are "needles;"
There are "straps that bind,"
and then there are "straps that bind;"
There are agonizing "shocks,"
and then there are agonizing "shocks;"
There are bitter "pills,"
and then there are bitter "pills;"
But "wounds" are "wounds,"
and "scars" are "scars..."

There is "pretty,"
and then there is "Beauty;"
There is "happy,"
and then there is "Joy;"
There is "truce,"
and then there is "Peace;"
There is "infatuation,"
and then there is "Love;"
But,
"wounds" are still "wounds,"
and "scars" are still "scars..."

Why?
For three score years I have asked,
"Why?"
I know the platitudes:
If it doesn't kill you,
it can make you better;
Life's Master Teacher
is pain;
This too
shall pass;
The years have mellowed me some,
I suppose,
but still,
I ask,
"Why?"

I bumped into a friend yesterday;
She knows who She is;
She is young and I am old,
but we're very much the same;
We reminisced a bit;
fond memories of "words" shared;
I told her I was still asking, "Why?"
but that I had no answers;
That all I had were sixty years
of well honed observations,
and that she was still Beautiful;
she was still a source of Joy;
she was still a reservoir of deep, still, Peaceful waters,
and that she was still Loved.

Today?
"Wounds" are still "wounds,"
and "scars" are still "scars,"
but when one has
Beauty,
Joy,
Peace,
and Love,
they don't seem to hurt
as much as they used to...

Wounds sometimes take a long time to heal - but scars, I'd say, are nothing more than a memory of that long ago (sometimes long-coming) healing. Time is an odd bird, isn't it?

Good work here, enigma. Perfect, really, for a New Year's Eve. It is, and precisely so, as melancholy as midnight and somehow, too, as hopeful as a new year. Heart-tuggingly beautiful.

Greetings & Happy New Year!

The ties that bind. . . these are my favorite lines:

"There is "pretty,"
and then there is "Beauty;"
There is "happy,"
and then there is "Joy;"
There is "truce,"
and then there is "Peace;"
There is "infatuation,"
and then there is "Love;"

These are the truths that make the questing worthwhile.

Smiles~ elle

Words are the only thing that last forever
They come when every human lips utter
Words are the human physician in grief
They solve your problems even being brief

Thanks for sharing the same with friendship
