SILENT IS THE NIGHT!

The starlight peers between the leaves
As branches sway back and forth.
A gentle breeze enhances,
This view seen from my porch.
Clouds hover between the moon and I,
And at times hide it from sight.
But peaceful is what I’m feeling,
For silence cometh soon this night!
Crickets chirping with violin wings,
Like a maestro conducting his song.
A sudden stop in tempo,
But the pause is not for long.
A wolf nearby is howling,
Such a peaceful “all is well!”
But that is short lived and fading,
Replaced by fragrant gardenia smell!
An alligator grunts it’s mating call,
Near the riverbank out of sight.
The bullfrog croaks it’s chorus,
As it does here every night.
Then suddenly without warning,
As if waiting for a time that’s right,
These musicians cease their warbling,
For silent is the night!
