Unspoken

Contributed by northernlights on Saturday, 31st December 2011 @ 01:49:09 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I took a walk down Unsaid Avenue and turned into Silent
Walk and there rocking to the rhythm of forgotten times
Was an
Empty chair, filled with the shadows of yesterday.
The phone sat silent.

I opened the album of missing memories and gently
Rocked the sides of the empty cot.
The ping of the microwave echoed in the silence as I went
Through the motions of consuming a meal for one.

I looked out of my window down Breadline Avenue and saw
A woman wearing the same shoes, patching the seams of
Trousers that after years of wear need to see another day.
Same shoes every day!

I turn to the face in the frame a reminder of when I felt the
Warmth of companionship, and noticed my friend has turned
Her photo frame over.
Tears wend their way down lines of bygone days, just as brimming
With warmth of laughter and smiles, of memories to be held or
With relief forgotten.

I look again to the streets of the unspoken and see the words swallowed
To the bottom of a bottle, whilst bloodshot eyes seek to extricate themselves.
And a couple sit in the angry silence, resenting each other’s existence.
As they watch a silent march of solidarity amongst those who have lost
Sons to the hands of violence.

And violence finds its voice in riots as society looks on in disbelief
As words disappear down gutters of disillusionment.

And a baby cries
And a baby cries!
But there is no answer
Where are the words?

*****!!!! Where are the words?

Well, I've got quite a few but more would be censored. lol

Anguish is one!!! This definitely is "life" poetry and part of it is mt life summed up.

Additionally, you know how they say "powerful writing"? Well the power in this one floors me. Goodness gracious!!!

Incredible my dear.

WOW!

I too don't believe there is enough time, room, or words for me to express this totally capturing work of art. I am reminded of so much. I am in awe of so much. I am empathetic of so much. Yet that is not important. Not to follow Tim, but he hit the nail on the damn head. This is life, total raw, energetic in its lack of energy and lacking in all it's spark with the happiness of a warm glow in a cynic's passion for missing words.
I am so happy I revisited your page. I have read some amazing poetry tonight. I thought that the best poem of the night came about an hour ago, but decided to check up on some northernlights.
What was found is perhaps one of the single best pieces of modern poetry I have EVER READ period. Those words neither come lightly nor do they come to flower a comment. This is a poem I feel comfortable with. I feel I am this poem, and this poem is around me. I feel we are all this poem, and we surround this poem as much as it surrounds us. If ever something were definitive THIS IS DEFINITIVE of its time, relevant to all society, and imperative to social identity. This is the stuff that some poets strive for years to write.
I am shocked this hasn't received more comments. Every REAL POET on this site should be talking about this work. I am not easy to impress and even less easy to blow away. I can be flowery in comments if I think something is above average but when reading something like this the more than is said the more one can realize there is still so much left to be said. This is publish-worthy, its prize worthy. Take a bow!

ELITE!

I am also wondering how this wonderful piece has not received more recognition! I was inspired by this poem. Truly a powerful piece in many ways.
Thanks you for this wonderful read,
Shae
