You Who Would Be Mine
My dream was nonsense
Yet prophetic so - - as I
Dreamt of you with all
Your charm and finery
You who would be mine
It started with a thought - -
A nocturnal musing from
Me to soul which - - empty - -
Didst crave the very
Ministrations you now lend
Desire - - I held - - for maiden
Fair who - - pure of heart - -
With auburn hair - - would come
This way and lo! Behold - - a
Beauty came of whom I’ve told
The wooing of a woman now
Is hardly as in days gone by - -
Yet simple was our passion - -
Love - - ‘twas long and slow - -
As well you know...
But now I feel the inner need
To come to you - - to kneel
And plead - - for answer - -
Dear - - to simple prayer that
You will now become my wife
