Life's Dream

Contributed by Angelus8663 on Friday, 23rd December 2011 @ 04:22:37 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Do you remember, the first day we met?
It was a day like no other, I'll never forget.
The world stopped spinning, time itself stood still
My senses assaulted, surrendering to your will.

Love at first sight, the whole cliche,
But over my heart, you now held sway.
It was fate that we met, that long summers eve,
A joyous moment in time, I never could believe.

Now years have passed, and I still feel that spark,
On My soul you have made a indelible Mark.
Our wedding is soon, and you make a beautiful bride,
I stand at the end of the aisle, bursting with pride.

More time has passed, and together we wait,
The pregnancy test shows why you are late.
First a baby girl, and then two little boys,
Our house filled with laughter, and the playing of toys.

We retire to the coast, the kids are all grown,
We did a great job, they all have families of their own.
Grandchildren come to see us, and play on the beach,
I thought a life like this was out of my reach.

Now you lie in our bed, breathing your last,
Our life together, seems to have gone so fast.
I'm not ready to lose you, I don't want you to go,
But your time has come, and you tell me so.

Our love grew from that tiny acorn, into a mighty tree.
I couldn't have lived without you, you completed me.
Now it's my time to go, to hand back life's lease,
You hold out your hand, and lead me to eternal peace.

Would that we could all write out and live our personal histories - - life would be so much more bearable yet life also has interesting twists. A great write - - Dave - - and an enjoyable read -- nice flow and rhyming scheme - - Alistair.
