I stepped outside into the night
A silhouette in the pale moonlight!
Dozens of dogs were wailing songs,
I wondered what could be so wrong!
After silence fell, came an eerie wind,
It began the chorus of the dogs again.
I suddenly heard the sounds of a train.
But there were no tracks, near my domain!
The wind died down, but trees were strewn
Across the street, down the avenue.
The dogs now reached, a feverish pitch,
Should I go back in, or find a ditch?
My grandson came, out onto my porch.
Said “Grandpa I’m scared, what’s the barking for?”
I told him “Son, please don’t have a fear,
The dogs are just praying, and are very near!”
“Can doggies pray?” “Of course they can!”
“They always have, but not known to man!”
“There was a wind, but they let us know!”
“By their barking prayers, for the wind to go!”
God made all creatures, from a heart of love!
And every one, is sent from above.
For He does care, if a sparrow falls,
And He hears the prayers, when our doggies call!
