The darkness surrounds me, impenetrable and black,
My voice echoes into the night, but no voices come back.
A small glow appears, in the distance to my right,
I head towards it, but as I near, it takes flight.
It’s shaped like a lantern, carried by the unknown,
The lantern is love, and the way it has shown.
As I follow its path, I encounter relationships past,
The light shines brighter, but the glow does not last.
We travel onwards, the lantern and me,
The destination unknown, the journey free.
As we past my last relationship, the light flickers and dies,
The darkness closes in and I wonder if I’m out of tries.
Then a small spark, which grows white and bright,
I realise that my journey’s not over this night.
So I trundle on, following the distant glow,
For hours it seems, until the light begins to slow.
The lantern now sits above a crossroads, a fork in my life,
One way lays pain and emptiness, the other love and a wife.
Which way should I choose? I’m so confused, The left or the right?
I stand forever, unsure, wishing that I hadn’t followed Love’s Lost Light.
