She sits in the shower, her clothes all around , head in her hands,
The water goes everywhere; she doesn’t care where it lands.
She’s knows her past life is over, she’ll never be the same,
No matter how hard she tries, she feels that it’s her that’s to blame.
She feels she could have fought harder, shouted louder into the night,
Doesn’t matter she’s smaller, couldn’t put up a fight.
She pulls mud from her hair, her eyes streaming with tears,
Never expected it to happen to her, now she lives in fear.
How could it have happened, she was just walking home,
He grabbed her from behind and threw away her phone.
When it was over, he pulled out a knife,
Said if she told, he’d come back and end her life.
She wants to tell someone, to tell the police her tale,
But the thought of reliving this nightmare makes her go pale.
Her mind starts to wander, is she the one to blame?
The bile rises through her, this feeling of shame.
She doesn’t yet know, that it wasn’t her fault,
That evil persists and must be brought to a halt.
She’s an innocent, brutalised for someone else’s lust,
In men, she will never fully regain that trust.
If anyone has suffered from this monstrous crime,
Talk to a friend, drop the police a line.
You need help to recover, your self-esteem has escaped,
The first step is to tell someone, that you were raped.

loved the poem. excellent write but I, being a man, felt a bit violated as no real man would even consider such a crime. |
